Hike with us and tell your friends! Collect pledges! MORE

Sulphur Mountain Trail is a moderate trail that follows a series of switchbacks to the summit ridge. A network of trails along the ridge, and viewing decks at the gondola station, provide stunning views of the Bow Valley. Once on top you can also follow a short trail up to the historic Cosmic Ray Station.

Sulphur Mountain is 5.5 kms one way with 655 m elevation gain. We expect it will take us approx. 3 hours to reach the summit. This hike is family friendly and good for people of all ages so children and grandparents are encouraged to participate. Talk to us if you want to join in the hike but are at all nervous about it and we will help you decide if this hike is right for you.

Sulphur Mountain is the same mountain that has the Banff Gondola so for those of us who prefer to only hike one way – we can take the gondola back down the mountain. Or – if anyone wants to take the Gondola both ways - we invite you to join us on top around noon.

We plan to meet in the parking lot by 8:30am and start hiking by 9:00am on Saturday September 9. This means that we should be at the summit of Sulphur Mountain by noon and then we can enjoy a refreshment and snack on the top before coming back down.

In the afternoon, we are planning a picnic at a nearby picnic spot (either Johnson Lake or Cascade Ponds) and invite everyone to come out and join us for that – even if you don’t do the hike in the morning. There will be BBQ’s available for use so everyone can bring their own lunch and we will pray that the weather allows us to have a fun afternoon of celebration.
