Engagement is a time of reflection and growth as your prepare for your wedding, which is a sacrament in the Catholic Church. The preparation for your marriage, and wedding, happens simultaneously. The priority is your marriage and the love you will share for the rest of your life.

Matrimony is the marriage covenent between Christians raised by Christ to the dignity of a sacrament. In the Sacrament of Matrimony, a man and a woman pledge themselves to one another in an unbreakable alliance of total mutual self-giving. It is a total union of love, a love that is not a passing emotion or temporary infatuation, but a responsible and free decision to bind oneself completely, "in good times and in bad," to one's partner. Such love is proclaimed before the eyes society. It is unconditional. To be capable of such love calls for careful preparation from early childhood to wedding day. It requires the constant support of the church community throughout its development.

To comply with the requirements for the Sacrament of Marriage, couples should contact the office at least six months prior to the proposed date of the marriage to allow time for the paper work to be completed and for a marriage preparation course to be taken.
